Popular because of its simplicity, the concrete screw is specially designed for gripping masonry surfaces, such as concrete slabs and block walls. The installation of a concrete screw is a two-step process: the builder drills a hole for the screw and then drives a screw into the hole. Screws for concrete are usually seen as wood screws; they have sharp, pronounced threads and a sharp point.

The sleeve anchor is a hollow, cylindrical piece of metal that allows a builder to hold bolts and standard bolts for concrete. To use a sleeve anchor, the builder makes a hole in the concrete about the size of the sleeve anchor. The builder inserts the cylindrical sleeve anchor into the hole and drives a bolt or bolt into the hollow center of the anchor. As the bolt or bolt tightens on the anchor, it pushes on the inside sides of the anchor. It causes the anchor to expand. The anchor grips expanded the concrete surrounding its exterior.
